Try Another Healthy Alternative!

Eating whats right can be hard and somewhat confusing at times...true. Do you count calories, points, fat grams, or use just plain common sense?? My advice would be to take the time to research. I'm pretty sure you know what foods you like to eat, right. And chances are you have a google or search engine app on your phone right in palm of your hand! Take the time to find an healthier alternative for the foods you like. What is the calorie count? How many grams of protein, carbs or fat are in this item?? Is it worth you eating...is it gonna help or hurt you??
While shopping in Kroger I ran across an alternative to one of my favorite foods...BURGERS! I often make turkey burgers abd have thought about making a chicken burger but never a SALMONBURGER! Bingo!! I love love love salmon but I was a little afraid of how it would taste grounded into a patty. But at a measly 100 calories a patty, I thought, WHY NOT TRY IT! I'm glad I did...absolutely delicious!! If your a seafood or salmon lover you will fall in love with salmon burger patties!
I grilled mine over medium heat with Pam grilling spray, and prepared it on a 80 calorie wheat bun with lettuce, tomato, red onion, 40 calorie ultra thin provolone cheese, a dime size drop of mustard, and low sodium tarter sauce. This burger including toppings and bread is UNDER 250 calories!!!

Confident or Doing Too Much?? Some say "Big Girls" shouldn't risk it...

As I'm embracing the "better Kelly" I find that it's not easy being about that fit life! It's actually harder in some ways to be more specific. As my confidence level goes from about a 6.5 to a 9.5 (lol) I find that more people have more things to say about what I wear, how I look, and what I do. I won't go as far as to call them haters because yes, everyone is entitled to their own opinion BUT IN MY OPINION certain things can be done and said tastefully without comeing off as you know everything and your opinion is the only one that matters. Petty nonsense such as this use to bother me. I would never speak up on it in order to avoid conflict, trying to be super nice but lately I've let it be known loud and clear that this is me and either you can love me and ride with me or NOT....One thing I love to do is "put on some clothes". Since I feel and look so better in my clothes I tend to try items that I've always admired on others but would never wear myself because I wasn't comfortabl doing so. Don't get me wrong...everything is definitely not for everybody! Some things I still would probably never pull off even if I had a super flat tummy or firm butt and thighs. However, I do like t take risk and show off the parts of me that I am proud of. Again, some may not approve and by all means, I'm ok with that. It's a few fashion trends I don't like on certain people either but at the end of the day I've learned that you can't please everybody! So what do you think?? Should "Curvy Ladies" or "Big Girls" be able to follow risky fashion trends or should they be put in a fashion box all by themselves??

Yes I showed tummy here for the Young Jeezy & T.I concert, September 1st at Cobo. I think it was done tastefully. The turquoise top was netted in front and sheer in back ensuring that I wasn't naked!
My dress was a little shorter than expected (too much back). However, I still felt good in this look showing a little more thigh than usual. Maybe it's just the way you carry youself! This was back in the beginning of May, I believe. My legs look a little more firm and toned now!
Short shorts! I use to hate shorts last summer. You couldn't pay me to wear a pair. Now, I love them!! This is my favorite look for shorts...a cute top, and a pair of comfy boots. See the difference in my legs? Thats three months of working it out!!

Recipe of the Week!

Some days I tend to "cheat", "backslide", or "indulge" a little more than I should. It's called being human. I've said it before that taking things one day at a time has helped me become more accountable for myself in all areas of my life including eating better and becoming more fit. I've always enjoyed comfort foods, even as a child which is partly the reason or my weight gain in the first place. My number one reason for loving Weight Watchers is because I like to eat (that will never change, food is good LOL) and they allow you to eat! The key to it is what are you eating? And how much of it are you eating? I'm a big sandwich person. I remember the days of going to Coney Island to get a grilled chicken sandwich or pita but with mayo or ranch (too much), lettuce, tomatoes, grilled onion, cheese and sometimes bacon (YIKES), and top of that I had fries and a Coke! Now, I know how to make better choices and still enjoy the foods I love. Here is a nice twist on a "Greek Salad Inspired" Chicken Sandwich. The recipe is from Weight Watchers. I've tried it before and I love it!!

1 pound(s) uncooked boneless skinless chicken breast(s), four 4 oz pieces
2 tsp olive oil
1 tsp red wine vinegar
1 tsp dill, fresh, chopped
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp kosher salt
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/8 tsp black pepper, freshly ground (or to taste)
10 Tbsp crumbled feta cheese, about 3 oz
1 Tbsp fat-free skim milk
1 Tbsp uncooked red onion(s), finely chopped
4 item(s) light hamburger roll(s) or bun(s), toasted
2 piece(s) lettuce, romaine, cut in half
1/2 medium fresh tomato(es), cut into 4 slices

Instructions

·         Coat a grill or grill pan with cooking spray; preheat to medium-high.

·         Pound chicken until about 1/4-inch thick  place on a large baking sheet. (I use thin sliced chicken breast)

·         In a medium bowl, combine oil, vinegar, dill, oregano, salt, garlic powder and pepper; drizzle over chicken and flip to coat both sides. Let chicken sit for 10 minutes.

·         Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine cheese, milk and onion; mash together with a fork to make a spread.

·         Grill chicken, flipping once, until browned and cooked through, about 2 to 3 minutes per side.

·         Place chicken on toasted bun bottoms; spread each with 1 heaping tablespoon feta spread. Top each with 1 piece lettuce and 1 slice tomato; cover with bun tops. Yields 1 sandwich per serving. (I also use a RED ONION SLICE for more flavor)

Eye Candy

On a trip to one of my favorite boutiques I spotted a dress that I had been eyeing on MY EYE CANDY's facebook page for a while! Sometimes the way things look in a photo and seeing it in person can give you two totally different views of an item. However this dress looked exactly like it looked on the photos. Brandy, the gorgeous owner of the boutique convinced me to go ahead and buy it. She said it fit even better than it looked hanging in her store. Although I am easily convinced when it comes to shopping....I still wasn't 100% sure if I would like it on me! On top of that, I frequently wear BLACK and promised myself I wouldn't add any extra black items to my wardrobe but this dress kept calling my name! And the price $36!!!! I couldn't let it slide....bag it up for me B! Soooo that was five months ago when I bought it. I've been out to many events where I could've wore the dress but I kept deciding not to for various reasons.... I didn't have the right shoes, I didn't have the right accessories to match it, it's black & it's summertime (who wears black in the summer), the sleeves are long so maybe I should wait til fall rolls back around....I had every excuse in the book until a few Saturdays ago! I couldn't think of what I was going to wear to an indoor/outdoor party at the Key Club. The summer nights in Detroit can get a little chilly, I didn't want to be irritated standing on concrete in heels all night so what the heck was I going to wear?! Oh yea....that little "black/gray" dress!! Finally I pulled it together! I originally did not want to wear the obvious choice "red" with it but at the end of the day it came together nicely with just a splash of color. RED LIPS, RED NAILS, RED TOES....that's it! I changed my middle part sew-in by adding a bang and curling my hair extensions with flexirods. The look came together nicely. So I guess black in the summertime can work as long as you know how to WORK IT!

Breakfast Everyday???

I use to dread getting up every day...mornings & I never really were cool! I could never make it to my first hour classes in high school, most of the time I'm speeding to make it to work on time (sorry) & now I have a Dr telling me I need to try to eat something (the bulk of my daily calories) every morning! Ugh...
Now into my 7th month of lifestyle change, I'm sorta kind of used to having some type of breakfast. One of the keys to healthy weight loss is your metabolism!! Grabbing fruit, a protein bar or an egg will give you the energy you need to burn calories faster than you would if you skipped bf & ate nothing at all...or even worse if you grabbed calorie packed donuts or fast food.
I didnt have to work this particular day so I had a little extra time to prepre myself a nice breakfast...
Omelette (2 eggs, leaf spinach, tomato, onion, green pepper, provolone cheese) *6 weight watchers pts*
Red Seedless Grapes *0 ww pts*
Low Sodium Bacon (1 1/2 slices) *2 ww pts*
Del Monte Grapefruit Slices *2 ww pts*

After I ate basically everything on my plate..I was pretty much full for the ret of the day. Days where I'm able to cook and prepare large healthy breafasts' come rarely. Most days I'm grabbing a Nutrigrain bar or a banana, a boiled egg, cup of coffee & I'm set. Whatever the choice is, just CHOOSE TO EAT BREAKFAST! By making a healthy choice it's even better!! Start your day off right & see those pounds disappear!!

Taco Tuesday! A Casual Nite Out

During the week I'm gun-ho on getting my workouts in so I usually dress in workout gear or something super casual & comfy! Rarely do I get a chance to hang out on a weekday, but last week my Godsis invited me out to $2 Taco&Tequila Tuesday at Rosie O'Gradys!! I'm glad I went too!! The environment wasn't really my cup of tea but the tacos were DELISH & the Margaritas were ON POINT!! I got a few eyebrow raising stares from some caucasion men (sorry not interested) but unfortunately I was ready 2go after hearing "I can't stand Obama" & other slandering remarks about African Americans from a group of white people at the bar! For that reason I will never go there again however they were not able to ruin my nite!
I wore a green hi/lo cotton skirt from Target (L $16.99) & my fav denim sleeveless top from Old Navy (XL $10.99) cute & comfy!! I've remixed this skirt with almost every shirt in my wardrobe...it's all about how u rock it!!
